C1: Digital Tools and Apps to Connect, Create, and Collaborate | Red Room
Our students love being engaged and connected to their learning, passions, and technology. We have the opportunity to give them the tools they need to collaborate, connect, and create with others not just in their classroom and school, but around the world. In this session, participants will learn how to use a variety of digital tools to do just that...Connect, Collaborate and Create! Shannon McClintock Miller will tell stories, show a number of amazing digital tools, and give lots of real-life examples that worked for her in the library and classroom. You will walk away with a rich tool box filled with things you can put into practice with teachers and students.
Presented by: Shannon McClintock Miller, Teacher Librarian and Educational Speaker, Advisor and Author
C2: Open Minds: Competition in the Library Makerspace | Empire B
How does a makerspace become more than a space? A competition combining research, design-process thinking and entrepreneurship is creating new excitement about Plymouth Whitemarsh (PW) High School’s library makerspace. Attendees will experience elements of the competition first-hand and participate in discussion on how the event may support a STEAM culture in the school library.
Presented by: Sara Frey, Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
C3: Come Fly With Me! Virtual Field Trips | Empire A
Take your students on a virtual field trip nearly anywhere in the world! In this workshop, teacher librarians will learn how to use Google Street View and Google Cardboard apps, Discovery Education, and Nearpod in order to create virtual field trips for their students. BYOD is strongly encouraged for this hands-on session. Downloading the free Nearpod, Google Street View and Google Cardboard apps to a smart phone is also recommended but not a necessity.
Presented by: Katherine Kauffman Roth, Norwin High School
C4: Library 365 - Year Round School Libraries: Partnering with the Community | Empire D
Keep the magic of library book selection going on all summer with a public library partnership! Join Radnor Township school and public librarians as they discuss the benefits and lessons learned from a popular program run this past summer while the public library closed for renovations. Book clubs, programming and promotion will be discussed.
Presented by: Sue Dahlstrom, Wayne Elementary School/Radnor Township School District, Dr. Maureen McQuiggan, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Radnor Township School District, Carrie Sturgill and Anny Laepple, Radnor Memorial Library
C5: Get a Clue with Lit Review | Wild Rose AB
How can you spark intrinsic curiosity in your students? By exposing them to the most exciting fiction and nonfiction texts out there, of course! The Literature Review Committee has worked all year to read and assess a variety of K-12 resources. Participants will be exposed to the best resources, and discover activities and suggestions for incorporating them in their library programs by participating in our very own Library version of the popular game of Clue.
Presented by: Lindsey Myers, Shady Side Academy Senior School and Literature Review Committee Members
